Since the release of the first iPad in 2010, apps have become the defining technology of the decade. Constantly developing through the years, apps increasingly link popular culture with technology. Now that 2019 has come to an end, we’ve surveyed the THHS student body about their favorite games and apps of the year by device:
iPhone App of the Year: Instagram
Instagram is a social networking platform that allows its users to share photos and videos. It is a digital center of culture where the mainstream is accessible to the general public. The app has rapidly become more popular because its content focuses more on visual images and videos that are easier to digest than lengthy, protracted messages in other social networking platforms.
“I enjoy scrolling through Instagram principally because it kills time and simultaneously keeps me apprised to pop culture and my interests to distract me from the void. ” junior Karen Lozano said.
iPad App of the Year: TIE: TikTok and Facebook
TikTok
TikTok is a social networking service where its users can create and share short videos. The content of the videos includes lip-syncing, comedy, oddly satisfying, and more. The video feed is engineered to reflect the user’s interests and people have the option of skipping a video if it is not to their liking. Users can also exercise their creativity by experimenting with effects and filters. (TickTock Inc).
Facebook is essentially a person’s digital persona. Here, users set up a profile and connect to family, friends, acquaintances, and colleagues. People have the chance to network and connect with people worldwide who share the same interests. In ‘Watch,’ viewers can watch a multitude of videos on beauty, sports, science, and lifestyle. People also can stay up to date regarding current events with news briefings and updates in the community. Users can publicly display their thoughts and emotions, as well as react to others’.
