This school year, new teacher Dina Inoyatov joined the Townsend Harris High School mathematics department, where she will teach geometry to freshmen and sophomores.
Ms. Inoyatov attended high school at Queens High School for the Sciences, where she was able to cultivate her love of mathematics. She said, “I had an amazing calculus teacher who inspired me to love math, and who made me realize that I wanted to inspire students to love math too. I realized that with determination and the right guidance, anyone can learn math.”
Ms. Inoyatov double majored in Mathematics and Secondary Education at Queens College, as part of the TIME 2000 teaching program. TIME 2000 is a program at Queens College that aims to teach students through a rigorous course focusing on mathematics and secondary education to enact improvements within the math curriculums in school.
This past school year, Ms. Inoyatov worked as a student teacher at THHS, teaching three sections of geometry to freshmen and sophomores.
One of her former students, rising sophomore Fariba Akter, talked about her experience in Ms. Inoyatov’s class. “I found myself participating more and being more engaged when she was in class. Also, she’s nice and friendly…I know she’ll gain valuable experiences as a teacher at our school.”
Rising sophomore Jacqueline Hong, who was also in Ms. Inoyatov’s class, said, “I liked how she used engaging ways to teach her class and that she was always cheerful and positive in the classroom.”
This year is Ms. Inoyatov’s first official year teaching. She said, “I’m excited to begin my teaching career at such a reputable school.”
“I’m looking forward to getting to know my students and helping them not only learn math but also grow as young adults. I’m also excited to be a part of the THHS community, and to experience the events and productions that make THHS unique,” said Ms. Inoyatov.
