On the second day of school, students received an access code for an upcoming Club Database website that is being developed by the Student Union in collaboration with Hack Club. The website is said to be used to track club attendance that will be used to verify club credit requirements for honor societies such as ARISTA and ARCHON.
The development comes alongside new club attendance regulations saying that students must attend at least 70% of a club’s meetings to receive club credit.
Students received access codes for the website during official class meetings, but the website is not yet ready to go live.
SU Club Liaison Elvis Chan said, “The original plan was to launch the club website about a week after students received the codes. However, due to logistical circumstances, we have to push the website until further notice”
“The website has been completed since before school started, and all the tools necessary to launch the app have been handed over to the SU,” said Hack Club Operations Advisor and senior Isaac Wong, who worked on the website.
Isaac said that the delay is due to certain Department of Education regulations that are being worked out with regard to the website.
After being briefed by their official class teachers about the purpose of the codes and what they were used for, s junior Sarna Paul said [she] was “surprised” and thought “it [is]a good, modern system to keep better track of clubs.”
“I haven’t heard much about the new club database as of late, just that it’s very experimental and still in development but it’ll ultimately keep club information more organized than ever before,” said Key Club Co-President and senior Cristian Marroquin. “As a leader in a historically large club, there’s definitely more record keeping that goes on in the background with us but I believe that the new database will ease the load for the board instead of being an inconvenience.”
“Like all change, it will definitely take some getting used to but I fully trust in the SU to make this a smooth transition process for every single club leader,” said Cristian.
