After finishing the regular season with ten wins and six losses, the boys basketball team were eliminated in the first round off the playoffs by the Queens Vocational Technical Tigers on February 25. The Hawks lost to the Tigers, 60-64.
Despite having 22 players on their official roster, only ten Hawks came to play in what would be their final game of the season. The starting lineup consisted of senior captain Edward Lu, with the rest comprised of juniors Jason Nieh, Jozef Nikaj, Milan Majstorovic, and Patryk Wadolowski. Jozef would lead the team in scoring, earning 21 of their 60 points. Milan followed closely after with 13 points. Both juniors also led their team in rebounding, with Jozef getting 21 and Milan 14.
Edward led the team in three-point scoring, shooting two consecutive three-pointers near the end of the first half, making it possible for the Hawks to reduce the leads the Tigers had built up, but it was not enough.
Queens Vocational played with an even smaller roster of only seven players, out of an official roster of twelve. They were led by senior Adam Todorovic and junior Alexis Nieves, who, together, scored more than half of the team’s total points. Adam scored 21 points, and Alexis trailed behind with 20 points.
The Hawks finished the first half of the game only five points behind, with a score of 23-28. Although the Hawks managed to outscore the Tigers by three points in the fourth quarter, it was not enough to secure them a place in the next round of playoffs. At the end of each quarter, the lead was never more than ten points, but the Hawks simply did not have enough strength to fly off with the lead, thus ending their season early in the playoffs.
