Despite a rocky start at the beginning of the season, the girls table tennis team pulled off a win when it blew out High School of Art and Design on December 17th, winning four to one. Performances in doubles and singles matches were both excellent for Townsend Harris.
The game kicked off to a great start for THHS in the first singles match led by team captain, senior Jenny Li, who won 3 out of 4 games in her singles match against opponent her opponent.
Juniors Catherine Chen and Yun Ping Tseng won all three double games, winning 11-1, 11-5 and 11-3 in the first, second, and third games, respectively. Catherine explained the pressure of the game, saying, “At first we were very nervous, but when you are [playing] the actual game, you are just playing with friends, and [it] does not feel like we are in the competition. We were less nervous overall, but it was an enjoyable game.”
AP World History teacher and team coach Mr. Stonehill reflected on the game saying, “We have a good team, but [we] don’t have nationally ranked players; our players have depth and our double team is strong. We hope to get better and better each year.”
