BACKGROUND:
Mr. Dunbar is starting his 9th year teaching. He has attended Colgate University and St. John’s University. Previously, he has taught at Louis Pasteur Middle School (MS67) in Little Neck, NY, from 2008 to 2012, and at Chaminade High School in Mineola, NY, from 2012 to 2016. “I’m looking forward to working with some of the most academically curious students in the city, collaborating with administrators and colleagues that value student achievement above all else, and doing everything I can as an English teacher to instill a love of the humanities in each of my students.”
PASSION:
“Toward the end of the school year, with permission from Mr. Olechowski, I shadowed Mr. Sweeney for the day to get a sense of the Townsend teaching experience. By the end of the day, I was so moved by the intelligence of the student body and the overall culture of success that I informed the school of my desire to set up an interview immediately afterward. [I am excited about] working with Mr. Sweeney again, [as] we were colleagues for four years at MS67, and the school’s proximity to my home (my wife, my four-month old baby, and I live in Forest Hills, Queens). Also, I’ve heard rumors of something called ‘Chicken Parm Fridays’.”
RECEPTION:
“Dunbar is definitely a breath of fresh air to the English department. He genuinely seems to have a passion for teaching, which is amazing because when you have a teacher that is enthusiastic about something, it motivates us students to strive to do better.”
