Last year, many Harrisites displayed pom keychains (fluffballs) on their backpacks, but this year the fluff has returned on shoes. This new trend is one of the many autumn fashion statements popping up in the halls.
Popular shoe brands such as Steve Madden, Sam Edelman, Kenneth Cole, and many others have all created their own version of this furry fad, so it’s no wonder they’ve been appearing everywhere.
Fur can be found on multiple shoe types such as on the straps of slides, and on pom shoes. Pom shoes include heels with small pom poms hanging from the sides and sneakers with large pom poms on the toe.
This style has been seen on multiple celebrities such as GiGi Hadid, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian. Fluffy footwear can be dressed up for a special event or worn casually on an average day of school.
Paired with a graphic tee and some jeans, these shoes can add the perfect amount of sophisticated poof to any outfit. Students at Townsend Harris have been catching up with the trend and are adding their own touch to the popular style.
Sophomore Samantha Alzate says, “I usually wear my fuzzy slides with a more casual outfit. The shoes caught my eye the first time I saw them. With its growing popularity, I knew I wanted to take on another trend.”
Another student seen showing off her edgy slides is senior Savannah Young who says, “I usually style my pom shoes with pants, whether it’s my mom/boyfriend jeans or simple skinny’s. I feel this creates a unique, yet still clique look when the legs are covered and the shoes are emphasized. They really do bring out my inner diva.”
With cold weather coming, these shoes are here fur the long run, so you may want to get yourself a pair of these uniquely fluffy kicks.
