Boys Varsity Basketball makes it to second round of playoffs before falling in triple overtime

The Boys Basketball season comes to an end; teammates reflect on their experiences after their loss in the second round of playoffs.

The Boys Varsity Basketball Team finished their regular season on February 6 against East-West School of International Studies with a score of 72-35. The team finished second in the Queens B I division with a record of 18-2 behind the first place team Maspeth High School. They went on to play two games in the playoffs, ultimately losing in triple overtime during the second round game.

With their regular season record, the boys were the 11th seed in the city. Their first playoff game was on March 2 against the 22nd seeded team Albert Tuitt, and they won 75-59. Senior Matthew Cantor led the team with 10 points and 15 rebounds, junior Andrew Chen followed with 10 assists and then came sophomores Andrew Leonard and Sebastian Morales with 35 and 19 points, respectively. 

This win led the boys to the Sweet 16 to play against the 6th seeded team Leon M Goldstein HS for Science. The team suffered a devastating loss, playing until the final whistle blew after three overtimes. Sebastian Morales led the team in this game with 21 points and Matthew Cantor followed with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Senior Abhijot said, “This season as a whole was a great experience that taught me to value all the time I have.”  He praised his coaches for transforming his skills and his teammates for making the season a fun and challenging experience.

Freshman Mohammad Nasrallah said, “I honestly don’t know how this year would have gone if I wasn’t on the basketball team.” He particularly praised his senior teammates for their work throughout the season. “I am so grateful for everything they taught me throughout the year,” he said. He looks forward to working to improve for next year.
