With the rise of autumn winds and colder weather, Harrisites find themselves creating new playlists, containing songs suited for the weather. To the students, each song selected for their playlists reflects their feelings on the ambiance of the weather and the vividness of the season.
The Classic spoke to many students who expressed that they enjoyed listening to songs with heavy instrumentals. Senior Sumay Jain, whose favorite fall go-to song is “Moonlight on the River” by Mac DeMarco, said, “I love the instrumentals and pace of the song. It has a laid-back simple style that matches the overall atmosphere of fall.” Sophomore Alvin Lin, whose favorite song for the season is “Double Take” by Dhruv, said “The song’s instrumental has the nostalgic feel that reminds me of various memories I associate with the colder weather.” Sophomore Bella Chen, whose favorite fall song is “Glue Song” by Beabadoobee, said, “This song has a soft and calming feel which is great for the comfort and reassuring season of fall.”
Other students like senior Zarah Masud said that their favorite song “All Too Well” by Taylor Swift, has lyrics that directly match the fall setting. She said, “Throughout the song, Taylor’s lyrical masterpiece really touches on her emotions during the fall season. The words and her raw emotions throughout the piece really touch me and remind me of fall.”
Many others, such as senior Shannon Jackman explained that they listen to songs that help them get through the stressful fall period. Shannon said, “this fall I am busy with college apps and rigorous courses, but the song “C’est La Vie” by Dutch Criminal Record, tells me to ‘live the life’ and to enjoy what’s in front of me.”
Students listen to these fall songs during different times, but especially during their commute to school.
Junior Puja Biswas, whose favorite song is “San Francisco” by Foxygen said, “[the song] is a chill song that I listen to when I’m on the bus, and it’s very calming.” Junior Ramisa Sharif, whose favorite fall song is “summer nights” by the Millennial Club, shared a similar perspective as Puja.
