As the spring sports season unfolds, the Townsend Harris Varsity Baseball team is embarking on a season filled with aspirations and dreams for the months ahead. Led by senior and team captain Alfredo Centola, the players are setting their sights high, with a collective goal of playing in Yankee Stadium and securing a division championship win.

Alfredo’s leadership extends beyond the field as he emphasizes the importance of both teamwork and individual contributions. He said he believes that success in baseball, much like in life, is about working together in harmony. “Baseball is a team sport, and we all must work together in unison…Each player has a role to play, and when everyone fulfills their responsibilities, we can achieve great things on the field,” Alfredo said.

Coach Matthew Lemanzyk echoed Alfredo’s sentiment. He said, “Success lies in the progression of both individual growth and cohesive teamwork. Our ultimate aspiration is to grace the championships at Yankee Stadium. Let’s remain steadfast in our efforts, continuing to evolve and flourish as the season unfolds.”

The team’s optimism is palpable as they eagerly anticipate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Sophomore Keldon Hooker is thrilled to be part of the varsity team, seeing it as a chance for growth. “Being a sophomore on the varsity team is an amazing opportunity. I’m learning so much from the senior players like Alfredo, and I’m excited to contribute to our team’s success,” Keldon said.

Senior Jack Demchak is looking forward to the season with a sense of excitement and readiness for growth. “I’m excited to have new learning experiences and improve my hitting skills,” Jack said. “Practicing outside has helped me refine my skills and has been incredibly beneficial, and I can’t wait to see how it translates onto the field.”

The team’s preparation extends beyond physical training, with players focusing on mental toughness and resilience. Sophomore Kayden emphasizes the importance of mental preparation. “As a sophomore, I feel a responsibility to work hard and prove myself on the field. I know that if I give it my all, I can help our team reach our goals this season,” Kayden said.

As the season progresses, the Townsend Harris Varsity Baseball team remains committed to their goals and aspirations. With a strong sense of teamwork, dedication, and a passion for the game, they are poised to make this season one to remember.
