“Pawterry” event that combined art and animal welfare. The event brought together over 30 participants from both clubs to craft animal-themed clay pieces to donate to animal shelters.
The event aimed to combine Pre-Veterinary Society’s dedication to animal awareness and Ceramics Club’s emphasis on art in a creative and meaningful way. Senior Rina Chen, Vice President of Pre-Veterinary Society, said, “We were able to seamlessly integrate components of both our clubs with community outreach and service as the overarching bridge. The handmade clay pieces are a thoughtful and personal way to express gratitude in the spirit of Thanksgiving.”
Senior Puja Biswas, President of Ceramics Club, shared her vision for the collaboration. “Though ceramics and Pre-Vet are very different clubs, we wanted to do something that would connect art and animals in a meaningful way,” she said. “The clay pieces, which include items like small bowls, dog bones, and paw prints, are being donated to animal shelters as tokens of appreciation for their work. Many of the pieces also work well as decor, making them versatile gifts.”
Senior Silga Chisim, President of the Pre-Veterinary Society, said, “I love planning interactive meetings where my members can learn new skills while also helping the community.”
Ceramics provided all the materials for the event, including air-dry clay, wooden tools for shaping and texturing, and instructional videos. “We encouraged participants to be creative with their designs, playing with textures and experimenting with different techniques. We even played music in the background to create a relaxing atmosphere,” Puja said.
Members of both Pre-Veterinary Society and Ceramics earned 30 minutes of community service for each piece they created, resulting in over 60 completed pieces.
Junior Margaret Garamendi, a Pre-Vet club member, said, “The event was amazing and so much fun to be a part of. I had never done ceramics before, so it was great to learn something new while also contributing to a good cause.”
Sophomore Amy Huynh, a Ceramics member, appreciated the event’s cause. “Creating ceramics is always enjoyable, but knowing that our work will be donated to a good cause made it even more special,” she said.
“This collaboration was a fantastic opportunity for members of both clubs to explore something new while supporting an important cause,” said senior Tawfiq Ahmed, a Ceramics member. “I hope to see more events like this from both clubs.”
Both clubs are eager to plan more joint events in the future. Silga said, “Since this collaboration was a success, I’m looking forward to more collabs with not only Ceramics, but other clubs as well. I think club collaborations are a great way for members of both clubs to have fun and expose themselves to new activities.”
