In 5…4…3…2… This iconic countdown filled the ears of many when it aired weekly on Nickelodeon from 2007 to 2012. iCarly, a sitcom featuring Carly (Miranda Cosgrove), Sam (Jennette McCurdy), Freddie (Nathan Kress), and Spencer (Jerry Trainor) made its way back onto viewers’ screens on Monday, February 8 when its first 2 seasons were released on Netflix.
The nostalgic Nickelodeon show revolved around a group of teenage kids attempting to manage their life as overnight internet sensations and ordinary teenagers in Seattle. The show is known for its humorous episodes and comedic jokes as teenagers Carly, Sam, and Freddy run lighthearted weekly webshows.
It has been almost 9 years since the show’s official ending on November 23, 2012, and many fans have since moved on to other shows. Though Netflix has only released the first two seasons of iCarly, many have rekindled their interest in a show everyone once loved. And with the speculations of a future reboot, who wouldn’t want to rewatch their favorite childhood show?
Sophomores Angelina Mccabe and Andre Dayoan said that the show was a “big part of [their] childhood[s].” Many students are beyond satisfied with the return of the show; just a few clicks away, Harrisites are excited they can watch the show whenever it’s most convenient. Many were not even expecting the release. Senior Kevin Baijoo was surprised to see the show on Netflix, and said “I felt like I watched it so long ago, I just forgot about it.” In the past, the show would be available on the Nickelodeon channel at certain times, leaving many like Junior Adam Tully, to watch the show incompletely. Adam said he wants “to push everything to the side and binge.”
Earlier this year, 9 long years after its conclusion, iCarly made its way straight up to the #1 spot on U.S. Netflix. It’s quite clear that many fans are enjoying the opportunity to rewatch their favorite show. Fans will have to wait and see if the reboot on Paramount+ satisfies their expectations and lives up to the humor of the original show.
