Dessert Shops to Visit with Friends
Looking for new places in Queens to hang out with friends and simultaneously satiate your sweet tooth? For those craving a sweet treat or new suggestions for local cafe spots, exploring popular dessert shops is the perfect place to start. There are various shops and bakeries located in Queens alone, all with their own unique sweets and baked goods. Here are some of our personal go-tos for you and your friends to check out!
Cafe Auburndale
Cafe Auburndale is perfect for a casual snack or hangout with friends. Primarily a coffee shop, they serve a curated menu of different coffees and teas. They offer a variety of Korean desserts, including endless options for pastries, cakes, and bingsu (i.e. shaved ice) to go along with their drinks. Located in Flushing, this cafe attracts all kinds of people with its sugary and fruity confections.
Eddie’s Sweet Shop
For over 100 years, Eddie’s Sweet Shop has been serving fresh, homemade ice cream. It’s one of the longest-running shops in New York City and has become a historic landmark in Forest Hills; in fact, its interior still upholds the old-fashioned ice cream parlor design. Their over-the-counter ice cream comes in many traditional flavors, such as Maple Walnut, Butter Pecan, classic vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. Additionally, they offer sundaes and milkshakes, which have become fan favorites. There is a flavor combination for everyone, and it’s a great place for a taste of the past.
French Workshop
If you ever want to sit back and relax, why not have simple yet elegant pastries as well? Authentic French desserts are always freshly baked at The French Workshop in Bayside. The bakery has been modeled like a cozy marketplace cafe and is considered a hole-in-the-wall shop compared to the many chain businesses in the surrounding area. All of the desserts are laid out in long glass cases, displaying their sweet and savory treats. Their specialties include baguettes, cookies, croissants, macarons, and tarts.
M Tea
Located on Main Street in Downtown Flushing, M Tea is hard to miss with its bright pink interior. Though dedicated predominantly to its vast bubble tea selection, the cafe also offers desserts such as mochi, ice cream, and tiramisu. Few take their orders to-go due to the irresistible, Instagram-worthy photoshoot spots that M Tea offers. Many stop by the hot air balloon, telephone booth, and swing sets before they leave.
Moon Cafe
Moon Cafe has the perfect, aesthetic interior for anyone looking to work in a serene environment. With menu offerings ranging from Vietnamese sandwiches to fruit-themed crepe cakes to freshly-brewed coffee, the spacious cafe caters to customers looking for a quick dessert and customers hoping to fill their stomachs. To add to the comfortable atmosphere, the friendly baristas are always willing to share their personal favorites, so ordering for the first time is less daunting!
Spot Dessert Bar
Located in both Manhattan and Flushing, Spot Dessert Bar puts a modern twist on Thai desserts. Their menu ranges from cakes to ice cream to coffee to tea, all in a variety of sweet and fruity flavors. Some of their signature desserts include Match Lava, Golden Toast, and The Harvest. Not only is there a dessert for everyone, but they all come served and garnished in artistic and intricate designs. This small but innovative shop is a great place to have fun, enjoy flavorful desserts, and take some sweet pictures.
