With August here, students are starting to get that dreaded feeling: summer is going by fast. Nonetheless, there are plenty of ways to savor every last bit of summer vacation. From celebrating cultures and women in sports to floating museums, NYC is filled with entertaining activities to do this August. Here are The Classic’s top five picks:

1 – Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival

The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival is a celebration of various cultures with sports, music, food, and performances. Join the celebration on August 12 and 13 starting at 10:30 AM in Flushing Meadows Park. The event offers free admission.

2 – Harlem Week

Harlem Week is a celebration that recognizes the rich traditions and customs of various cultures. The celebration runs from Wednesday, August 9, to Sunday, August 20. The event is located on Randall’s Island and admission is free. There are many activities such as uptown night markets, outdoor film festivals, and even chances to display your talents and skills with modeling, scholarships, and entrepreneurship just to name a few.

3 – Movies with a View

Movies with a View returns for its 23rd season at Pier 1 Harbor View Lawn in Brooklyn NY, featuring films surrounding this year’s theme of “We are Family.” The lineup includes Despicable Me on August 10, and a movie of public choice on August 24, with options like The Addams Family, Little Women, and Romeo + Juliet. Food and beverages will be available for sale starting at 5PM, but visitors are welcome to bring their own food. The movie starts at sunset, and entries are welcome from 6PM.

4 – Women’s World Cup Viewing

The Women’s World Cup is well underway and fans have the opportunity to enjoy viewing the games on a large screen outside the Oculus (50 Church St). Selected matches are shown on August 5th at 8:00PM and August 10th at 7:00PM. The event is hosted by the World Trade Center. RSVP for free, though walk ups are welcome.

5 – Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

The only museum afloat on a sea of water is located on Pier 86, W 46th St. One Friday every month, admission to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is completely free. This month, it will be free on August 25 from 5PM to 9PM. Inside, an array of historical military and wartime vehicles are on exhibit.
