With a fresh new group of juniors leading the Freshiors S!NG production, there are new plans and responsibilities that the directors will be taking on this year. The art department in particular plays an important role in bringing the show to life through the backdrop, flats, and props.
This fall’s Freshior Art Department will be led by juniors Angela Lee, Claire Weng, and Anderson Persad. Some of the art directors were not in the art department until this coming year, creating a new experience for all the directors involved.
Claire said, “As an art director, we are in charge of designing the flats and the backdrop for the play to mobilize our team effectively for the final performance. I plan on communicating with my teammates a lot as communication is key. If we have any problems, we will put our heads together to form a solution.”
Angela said, “We have already started to assign each other different parts to draft out, which helps divide the work between the three of us. For Claire, she will work on most of the sketches and outlines with the team, I will clean up and add details, and Anderson will assist with the coloring process.”
Despite their efforts to plan, the art directors acknowledge the many challenges that come with leading a large group of members for both themselves and the team overall. The Freshiors art department plan on advertising themselves and appealing to the incoming freshmen to get some new participants. .
Claire said, “I think stress [will be] a large challenge for me. Having to balance my studies and academic performance while working on S!NG may be difficult. However, if I manage my time properly and don’t procrastinate as much on my schoolwork, I think I’ll be able to manage all my responsibilities.”
Anderson added, “Our main challenge may be meeting deadlines, but with the help of my other directors, I think we will be well prepared. I want to improve the art department’s overall participation rates and make it feel even more fun, since we suffer from people not showing up as much as they should.”
Since incoming freshmen will be joining the team, the directors acknowledge how important it is to create connections through S!NG.
Anderson said, “I definitely need to be firm on my leadership role as art director, but overall help aid and guide the new incoming members on the team. With the help of my other directors, we will be able to collaborate and give important information and tips to those who choose to join this year.”
Angela adds to this saying, “I would like to get more people involved in our department so that we can get everything done more efficiently. I also want to have more team bonding activities with the art department members so they will become more comfortable with the team. I don’t want the members to feel intimidated by us, but rather, I would like to get to know everyone better.”
Freshman Fayyad Zaman who is interested in joining S!NG this year said, “Something that makes me very intrigued for S!NG is the different departments involved. For instance, there is acting, singing, and much more that make me interested in what’s to come. I look forward to seeing all the students collaborate and perform on stage.”
