On November 2, the Freshman Sophomore Cross Country City Championship was held at Van Cortlandt Park. It was a sunny, warm Saturday afternoon, but became cloudy and rainy at the end of the meet, but the girls cross country team remained in good spirits throughout the whole race, and ending the meet with much joy and celebration.

JV Volleyball strikes again defeating the Cardozo Lady Judges

On Tuesday, October 29 Townsend’s JV Girls Volleyball soared into the Martin Van Buren Gym leaving victorious with a win against Cardozo High School. After losing their first game of the season against Cardozo the Girls were able to pull together and take home the win. The game ended with a score of two sets to one Townsend.

Senior day ends in a win

November 1 marked the end of the Girls’ Varsity Volleyball season and the final regular season games for six seniors. In the Wanda Nyx Gymnasium, the Lady Hawks hosted Senior Day, the day when the seniors on the team are recognized for their work and dedication over their years as members of the volleyball team.

Girls track looks to continue last year’s success

For the Townsend Harris trackies, the final days of cross country season mark the start of indoor track and field. Soon, the runs at Van Cortlandt and Cunningham Park will be no more and the Lady Hawks will begin competing at the Armory New Balance Track and Field Center in Washington Heights. There, they will not only participate in running events such as relays, sprints, and hurdles, but also in field events such as the pole vault, long jump, triple jump, and javelin.

Boys cross country team goes from uphill to downhill

Saturday, November 2 brought the Freshman Sophomore Cross Country City Championships to Van Cortlandt Park. The THHS boys cross country team was joined by runners from all over the city. Despite some great finishes from the THHS team, the results were less than satisfactory.

Teacher feature: Mr. Hackney’s history in sports

Social Studies teacher Chris Hackney, most easily recognized by his accent, is notable for teaching the popular electives AP Human Geography and History Through Film. What many students may not know, however, is that Mr. Hackney was the first baseball coach at THHS, and that he also coached girls and boys soccer.

On Saturday, October 26, the Townsend Harris boys cross country team traveled to Van Cortlandt Park to compete in the PSAL Queens Borough Championships. They raced against several runners from public high schools all over Queens.
