THHS’s Sikh Student Association (SSA) hosted its first Bhangra Night in the cafeteria to share the Punjabi culture with both the THHS community and outside students. The SSA, held on April 11, had everything from samosas to Hispanic music and performances, with many attendees adorned in semi-formal Indian garb.
Junior Kirandeep Kaur commented, “Next year, Bhangra Night will strive to improve the amount of activities and entertainment provided. In addition to improving the lack of advertisement in Townsend itself and the community.”
Junior Simrankaur Wahan, founder of SSA, shared her views on the outcome of the event.
“I’m very proud to say it was a success,” she said. “Everyone enjoyed the Punjabi food, dances, and decorations. It put a big smile on my face when I overheard people praising SSA’s first event.”
She added that this success inspired her to have the Junior Sikh Coalition join them in hosting a “Know Your Rights” anti-bullying assembly.
The SSA was formed a year and a half ago.
