The Boys Varsity Soccer Team has competed in three matches so far this fall season, emerging with one win, one loss, and one tie.
Coach Matthew Curiale praised the team members for their chemistry and talent despite any challenges they have faced. “This was especially clear in our game [against Queens Technical High School]. After falling behind 2–0, the team showed great resilience by battling back to score two excellent goals and tie the match. I believe that with another 5–10 minutes, we could have scored the winner,” the Coach Curiale said.
“In the first half, the other team scored 1-0 but then Sebastian scored to make it 2-1, which made us more motivated as we lost hope in winning,” sophomore Captain August Krauskopf said.
On September 10, the Boys Varsity Soccer Team faced off against Information Technology High School, securing a 3-0 win. “[In] previous years, we would lose the lead in the final minutes. We were able to maintain our energy and carry through,” August said.
“I think we’re off to a great start, I’m really proud of how we are doing. I think we’re looking better than past years, and I’m really proud of how we’ve been playing,” said Tristan Lyner.
Some of the toughest competition of the season is approaching. On Wednesday, the team lost 4-1 to Long Island City High School.
“One of our biggest challenges this season is that our opponents are often bigger and more aggressive, but our team is beginning to adjust to the physical side of the game,” said Coach Curiale.
The team’s next match is in one week when the boys face Middle College High School at LaGuardia Community at Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
“Win or lose, this group is something special, and I am confident we are headed for a very successful season,” said Coach Curiale.
