HTML tutorial

On December 12th, the girls varsity basketball team hosted the Grover Cleveland High School Tigers in a divisional matchup. The Hawks once again dominated their opponents, handily beating the Tigers 44-23.

As they did in the first three games of the season, the Hawks took the lead in the first quarter, giving them the start that they needed in order to win. The Hawks outscored the Tigers 11-7 in the first quarter, a lead that they would not relinquish. In the second quarter the Hawks put up 18 points compared to only three scored by the Tigers, and at the end of the first half the Hawks were leading 29-10. The Hawks just continued to build their lead in the second half as they outscored the Tigers 15-13 en route to the 44-23 victory.

Junior guard Debra Chan said, “It shows the time and effort we put into the team with all the practices and scrimmages.”

The Hawks once again dominated almost part of the game. The Hawks had 12 assists, 30 rebounds, 18 two-point field goals, and made five free throws.

Senior guard Bianca Dilan said, “Being a part of a team with such talented girls you can always expect a good game where everyone works their hardest.”

The team leader in assists was Debra who had four assists. Debra also led the team in points scored with 14. The leaders in rebounds were Debra and senior forward Sierra Berkel who each had six rebounds. Debra also led the team in two-point field goals made with six, as well as leading the team with two free throws made, tied with junior guard Meraldina Ziljkic.

Debra feels that this year has proved a bit different for her, “By taking on a slightly different role from last year, I am more vocal in assisting my teammates with a stronger sense of leadership than I had in the previous years.”

The Hawks have now extended their regular season game winning streak to 38 games, and four games in this year’s season.

Sierra, who has been a part of the team during the entire streak, said, “It’s been an amazing ride so far and I can’t wait to see where we get this season.”

Sierra added, “I think this team has the most heart, we love what we’re doing so I have no doubt we will continue to be successful.”

The next game for the Hawks is on the road against the John Bowne High School Lady Wild Cats on December 16th in a battle of two undefeated divisional teams.
